Why choose R5.0?

• Choose R5.0 over R4.1 if your NCC requirement is R4.5 or R5.0, which R4.1 can’t meet. R5.0 is only 5mm thicker, so if R4.1 fits your roof space, R5.0 will too. The trade-off is fewer square metres per pack.
• Choose R5.0 over R6.0 if you want strong performance without needing 250mm of roof depth, or you want to keep cost per square metre down.
• Choose R5.0 over R4.1 for a darker or non-vented roof, a cold climate, or a higher energy rating.

Installation tips

• Install from above (in the roof space) or from below, whichever suits your access.
• Let the batts expand to full thickness, and never compress them, because that lowers the R-value.
• Keep batts clear of downlights, flues and exhaust fans unless they’re rated for insulation contact.
• Use a kneeling board across the joists when working in the roof space.
• Wear gloves, long sleeves and a dust mask when cutting.

FAQ

What does R5.0 mean? It’s the thermal resistance rating. A higher R-value means better insulation.
What’s the difference between R4.1 and R5.0? R5.0 is 220mm versus 215mm thick, with noticeably higher thermal performance and about 21% less coverage per pack.
Will it fit my roof space? You need at least 220mm of clear depth above the ceiling. Check this first.
