Sizes and coverage

• 250mm x 430mm x 1160mm: 6 batts per pack, 2.99 m² of batt per pack
• 250mm x 580mm x 1160mm: 6 batts per pack, 4.04 m² of batt per pack

Because the batts are very thick, each pack covers a much smaller area than lower R-values. Work out your pack count carefully, allow for joists and offcuts, and match the width to your joist spacing.

Why choose R6.0?

• Choose R6.0 over R5.0 if you’re in a cold climate, aiming for a high energy rating, or want the most comfortable bedrooms and living areas under the roof. It adds 30mm of thickness for 1.0 more R-value.
• Choose R6.0 over R4.1 if you want a large step up in performance and have the roof depth for it. It’s 35mm thicker and covers about 41% less per pack.
• Choose R5.0 instead if your roof space is limited, or you want more coverage per pack and a lower cost per square metre.
• It’s also useful as a top-up. Adding R6.0 over dry, sound existing insulation is an efficient way to reach a high total R-value in one layer.
• Check the NCC requirement for your climate zone, and make sure you have at least 250mm of clear space above the ceiling.

Installation tips

• Install from above (in the roof space) or from below, whichever suits your access.
• Let the batts expand to full thickness, and never compress them, because that lowers the R-value.
• Keep batts clear of downlights, flues and exhaust fans unless they’re rated for insulation contact.
• Use a kneeling board across the joists when working in the roof space.
• Wear gloves, long sleeves and a dust mask when cutting.

FAQ

Is R6.0 overkill? In milder zones it usually exceeds what you need. In cold climates, or for a high-performance build, it’s a sensible upgrade.
Will it fit my roof space? You need at least 250mm of clear depth above the ceiling. Check this first.
How many packs do I need? Divide your ceiling area by the coverage per pack and add 5–10% for offcuts. For example, 100 m² of ceiling needs about 31 packs of the 430mm size (3.32 m² coverage each) or about 23 of the 580mm size (4.48 m²).
