Pink® Soundbreak™ R3.1 Acoustic Wall Insulation (110mm)

If your walls are built with deeper 110mm cavities, R3.1 lets you fill every millimetre with dense, sound-absorbing glasswool. It’s the top of the Soundbreak range, combining the strongest acoustic design with the highest thermal rating, so it’s a good fit for home theatres, music rooms and bedrooms next to noisy spaces, and for homes aiming above the minimum energy requirements. It’s made in Australia by Fletcher Insulation and backed by a lifetime warranty.

How much quieter?

Fletcher’s data sheet gives an example for a typical internal 90mm timber-stud wall with 13mm plasterboard each side: around Rw 32 without insulation, and typically around Rw 42 with Soundbreak in the cavity. A 10-point increase is described as a doubling in perceived sound isolation. Results vary with the wall design, cavity depth and installation.

Why choose R3.1?

• Choose R3.1 over R2.7 if your wall frames are 110mm deep, so you fill the whole cavity, or you want the highest thermal rating the range offers.

• Never compress the batts to make them fit, because that lowers their performance.

• Cut batts slightly oversize so they friction-fit between studs.
• Fill the cavity fully, without compressing the batts, and avoid gaps at the corners and edges.
• Wear gloves, long sleeves and a dust mask when cutting.
• Check the NCC requirements for your climate zone.

Where it’s not for

FAQ

What’s the difference between R2.7 and R3.1? R3.1 is 110mm thick versus 90mm, with a higher thermal rating, but it needs a deeper wall frame.
Will it fit a 90mm frame? No. Use R2.5 or R2.7 for 90mm frames.
Will Soundbreak soundproof my room? No. It reduces noise transfer, but results depend on the whole wall system, including plasterboard and sealing.
Why is it green? Fletcher now makes Soundbreak in a distinctive “Serene Green” colour to tell it apart. Performance is the same, and older stock may be pink.
How many packs do I need? Measure the wall area, subtract windows and doors, divide by the coverage per pack and allow a little extra. Because each pack covers less than the 90mm options, you’ll need more packs.
