Sancell Therm 8.0 + LAP Thermal Break Foil Insulation (30 m² roll)

Steel frames conduct heat straight through a building. Sancell Therm 8.0 is built to interrupt that. A fire-retardant closed-cell foam core is sandwiched between two layers of reflective woven aluminium foil, giving you the R0.2 thermal break that steel-framed buildings need, plus a radiant heat barrier that reflects up to 97% of radiant heat. The foam gives the roll enough rigidity to stay manageable on site, and the 150mm lap along one edge makes joins quicker and tidier.

Key benefits

  • R0.20 material R-value, delivering the thermal break for warehouse and steel-framed construction
  • Reflects up to 97% of radiant heat
  • 8mm closed-cell fire-retardant foam core, easy to handle and install
  • Built-in 150mm lap for faster installs and less waste
  • Extra heavy duty, with a polyethylene weave for strength
  • Class 2 vapour barrier and water barrier
  • Anti-glare coating on one side for safer handling outdoors
  • Low flammability (index of 5 or less)
  • Fibre free and non-itchy
  • Australian made

Size and coverage

  • 1350mm wide plus a 150mm lap x 22.25m long
  • 30 m² per roll
  • 8mm nominal thickness

What is it made of?

A fire-retardant extruded polyethylene closed-cell foam core, laminated to two layers of reflective woven aluminium foil with a high-density polyethylene weave for strength.

Where to use it

  • Steel roof and steel wall cladding systems
  • Warehouses and industrial sheds
  • Steel-framed garages and workshops
  • Anywhere you need a thermal break on a steel frame

Choose Therm 8.0 if you want a firmer foam core for flat runs on steel cladding. Choose Air 310 if you want a flexible bubble core that drapes under a roof. Check the NCC requirement for your building type and climate zone.

Reflective foil or bulk insulation?

Reflective foil is very effective at blocking radiant heat, which makes it popular in hot climates and under metal roofs. It works best with a reflective air space next to the foil, and it’s often combined with bulk insulation for year-round thermal performance. Use our Earthwool® Therma Blanket range when you also want bulk R-value. Check the NCC requirement for your climate zone.

Installation tips

  • Follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions and the relevant standards for your application.
  • Overlap the 150mm lap neatly, and seal joins with reinforced foil tape where the instructions call for it.
  • Keep the foil intact, and repair any tears.
  • Keep a clear air gap against the reflective surface where the system relies on it.
  • The foil conducts electricity, so keep it at least 50mm clear of light fittings and hot flues, and use plastic fixings near wiring.
  • Wear UV-protective sunglasses when installing outdoors in bright sun.

Don’t forget the tape

Use our Forza Reinforced Aluminium Foil Tape to keep the foil facing continuous at joins, cut edges and small tears.

FAQ

What is a thermal break? A layer that stops heat conducting through a steel frame. The NCC requires one in many steel-framed buildings, and Therm 8.0 provides R0.2.
Is the lap included? Yes. The roll is 1350mm wide with a 150mm lap along one edge.
Is it a vapour barrier? Yes, it’s rated as a Class 2 vapour barrier.
What’s the difference between Therm 8.0 and Air 310? Both have an R0.20 material R-value. Therm 8.0 has a firmer 8mm foam core, while Air 310 has a thicker 11mm flexible bubble core.
Is it safe to handle? It’s fibre free, non-itchy and classed as non-hazardous. The foil conducts electricity, so keep it away from live wiring.
How much does one roll cover? About 30 m², before allowing for laps and offcuts.
Can I collect in store? Yes, click-and-collect is available at checkout.
